I-4 Stability

This block is a combination of piece work and applique'. I chose to paper piece this one.

from print fabric cut (2) 2-1/2” squares cut once on the diagonal to yield 4 triangles, (1) 4” square cut twice on the diagonal to yield 4 triangles, (1) 2-3/4” square. From background cut (6) 2-1/2” square cut once on the diagonal to yield 12 triangles, (4) 1” x 2-3/4” for applique’ s.

Using your preferred method of applique’ attach the background applique’s to your center square.

Trim the finished center to 2-3/4” square.

Piece your paper sections

Assemble the block in 9 patch fashion. Trim block to 5".

G-13 Molly's Muffin

Use your preferred method of appliqlue' to complete this block.

Here is how I made this one..... I PIECED the center "muffin" section (to look more like Jane's block) but if you wish to use just (1) whole piece of fabric then you will need to cut a 3" square of fabric for the center and NOT the (4) small rectangles that I list below.

Cutting instructions: From Print fabric cut (5) 2" squares and (4) 1-1/4" x 2" rectangles. From Background cut (2) 2" squares and (1) 2" x 5" rectangle.

Piece the background as follows - sew 2 rows of 2" squares ... Print-background-Print.

Assemble the block with the solid rectangle of background fabric in the center and the 2 pieced rows on either side of it.

Next you will piece the center "muffin" section. (skip this part if you are using one solid piece of fabric for applique') Piece the rectangles to the print square by sewing the 2 side pieces on first and then the top & bottom. PRESS well.

Place your template on the BACK of the fabric aligning the seam lines with the solid drawn lines. (I used freezer paper but you could use wash away paper or just needle turn)

Photobucket

Trim away excess fabric leaving 1/4" seam allowance for turning under. (here I used a fabric glue stick to baste te edges under)

Center the "muffin" section on top of your pieced block and then hand or machine applique' it down. Once I completed the applique' I carefully cut away the back behind the applique' to remove my paper pattern. Trim your finished block to 5".
